Game Day Food!

Ok. So I lied about getting a non-food post in, but this is somewhat relevant.

I don't really know how to classify this post, except as Game Day Foods. Here in Chicagoland, we're watching the Blackhawks in the playoffs. Admittedly, I'm not a sports fan, but I'm at least vaguely aware of what's going on. :-P

So here's an oddly specific rambling of food I enjoy...

I've fallen a bit out of love with pizza... I know, I'm crazy. But I've enjoyed A LOT of pizza in my pizza hey day. Here's some of my favorite joints:

Adreani's
1940 Touhy Ave
Des Plaines, IL 60018
  • I like the two slice special. You get a large drink. Pizza is great!

Mugavero's (Mug's)
600 West Central Ave / 7228 North Harlem Ave (Touhy & Harlem)
Des Plaines, IL 60016 / Chicago, IL

Called Mug's by locals, I call it Mugavero's like a girlfriend who won't call her boyfriend by his last name.
  • do NOT need extra cheese -they HOOK IT UP.
  • BLT pizza (seems weird, but once you try it, you end up getting a taste for it)
  • Western pizza was very good
  • And, of course, you won't go wrong with a regular pepperoni.
  • Cheesy garlic bread. Always.

Great bar pizza. Watch the games here:
Ye Olde Town Inn (YOTI)
18 W Busse Ave
Mt Prospect, IL 60056

Countryside
(only had once, but couldn't stop eating!)
2501 W Ballard Rd
Des Plaines, IL 60016

Featured once before, but my personal all-time favorite:
Brandy's
584 E Oakton St
Des Plaines, IL 60018
  • Get the gyro with extra an pita and extra tzatziki sauce, mozzarella sticks, smoothie or shake.
  • They hook it up with the meat, so make two gyros with the extra pita and sauce. (Seriously, when you make two, the meat to pita ratio is perfect.)
  • And just in general, the menu is so extensive that you will not fail in finding something to eat. (I need to try the chicken gyro with honey mustard...)
  • Not just sandwiches and burgers -you can find a meal that needs a plate.
  • Avoid the pizza puff.

That's all lovelies! Go Blackhawks!

(Side Note: I have to have a shout-out to Google Chrome, whose browser history made it possible for the recovery of this post! I was soo not about to rewrite it!)

I see a pattern...

A lot of my posts have been about either food or makeup, so here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to bust out these post ideas and schedule them for later, and in the meantime find something else to blog about. That won't be too hard, I just have OCD and want to get these ideas out first. My life may revolve around food, but not makeup... I've just been thinking a lot about the quality of the products I've been using. I'm in no way a makeup guru, but I put it on pretty much everyday.

More diverse posts ahead!

Also, Happy Mother's Day!

Breakfast Sandwiches

There are two great things in this world: breakfast and sandwiches, and with their powers combined...

I like eggs with cheddar and Parmesan. Add bacon and a bagel, and you have a delightful breakfast sandwich.

Egg, bacon, cheddar, and Parmesan on an everything bagel.

Egg, bacon, cheddar, and Parmesan on a plain bagel.
I made these on both everything bagels and plain bagels. There's a lot going on, so I'd suggest the plain bagel... I didn't really have any options the day I made it with the everything bagel. But if you want A LOT going on, feel free to use that! No complaints about the taste.

A friend of mine made me a sandwich with ham, bacon, egg, cheddar, and Monterrey Jack. Put that on a Hawaiian bread bun, and you have a sweet and salty combo that's amazing.

An unexpected combination are blueberry bagels with sausage, egg, and cheese. You can get these at Dunkin' Donuts in a pinch. Blueberry bagels and sausage is just a phenomenal combination. I think they're like the same flavor, only one is sweet and the other is salty.

I haven't gotten around to it, but I want to make breakfast sandwiches with brie and avocado -but not necessarily together, but why not? ;-D

And I must say, the Sugar Bowl [1494 Miner St, Des Plaines, IL 60016] gets a shout out. They have an avocado Benedict that's to die for. So if you're feeling ambitious, put avocado on top of that Benedict! Never made Hollandaise, although I have a recipe for it. Don't know how involved it is. (Lazy me hasn't even read it! LOL)

There's something about making breakfast in the morning that just makes you feel accomplished. Not to mention your stomach is just immensely happy.

Later, Lovelies!

Product Reviews & Empties!

Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Bronzer & Blush
I'm not a bronzer person, but I thought I've give this a try. It was my first foray into contouring, but just barely so. The bronzer does NOT have much coverage. The blush is nice and subtle and doable, but the bronzer doesn't offer much coverage, even over foundation -even as a contour. There's no definition happening there. I'll wear it at home, just to use it up, but I wouldn't reach for it otherwise. (If I want to be productive at home, I need to be wearing makeup and shoes.) In short, don't get suckered by the packaging... I thought this would be a great starter for contouring, but the bronzer doesn't really do anything.

My Empties
So here's a review of my two empties:

EradiKate by Kate Somerville is a godsend. It's a great spot treatment for pimples you already have. Really does the job, and does it quick! I would repurchase.

I also used up the Almay Clear Complexion Blemish Heal.... didn't really do much in terms of preventing blemishes, and allegedly has "Blemish Heal Technology." I would have to say that just using Tea Tree Oil all over my skin after washing it made my skin clear up. Probably not going to repurchase. I'm personally a Revlon ColorStay girl, myself.

Later Loves!

Thai Square

Hello everyone!

So I guess I'm on an asian food kick. This will not disappoint.

I discovered Thai Square a year ago while using the Pace bus system. I am all about eating local. And like I said, this place doesn't disappoint.

Shu Mai
Basil Fried Rice
Chicken Teriyaki

I highly recommend the Shu Mai. I don't really like soy sauce, but they serve a tangy soy sauce with it, and it's sooo delicious.

There is a $6.95 lunch special. These are the portions they give you -huge!

Next time, I will have to try the curries. Did I mention they have a pretty extensive menu?

Yum Yum in my Tum

Yesterday, I ventured out (for the second time) to Ramen Misoya. There are no words for how delicious it was. I finished all of it, and it's a hearty portion.

The nice thing about Ramen is that it's filling, but not the I-think-I-need-bigger-pants-and-a-nap full. And miso is also really great for hangovers. There were sheets everywhere espousing the benefits of miso, but considering how tasty is was, I don't even need that.

I ended up getting the same thing, which is what usually happens to me since I like to mix it up and may not go to the same place particularly often. Once I find something I like, I go back to it. Other menu items are motivation to go back (but usually that's within the month).

I got the Kome (full-bodied) Miso, Spicy Ramen with egg and kimchee. That was the first time I had tried kimchee. Yummy. I love the eggs, too. They're hardboiled with the yolks still slightly soft (mmmm....). You can see the potato and corn. I thought those were lovely (Western?) additions.

The place is in a strip mall. It's kind of small inside, but if you go during the day, it's not too bad. There are some tables for larger parties, and a bar type counter to sit at. So if you want to go to a place by yourself, this is probably your best bet (unless you're a solo dining aficionado!). They open at 11:30. We were sitting in the parking lot, half an hour early, killing some time when we suddenly noticed that by 11:25 there were already at least five cars in the parking lot for this place.

The very first time we attempted to go it was a Saturday night, and it was crazy. Instead we went to Dotombori (from a previous post!).

I must admit that Ramen Misoya is my first jaunt into real ramen (see also: Maruchan expert).

This place is a must try.
